1.Language is a human universal. In my point of view , people around the world have a native language, every language have an important roll that is the reciprocal communication in their speakers.
ReplyDeleteLanguages change. In this fact we talk about the tecnology takes an important place in every single language , mainly the kids spend all the time in youtube they discover new words and ways how to communicative.
Language and culture are closely related. Language is used not just as a tool for the exchange of information, but as a symbolic system with the power to create and shape symbolic realities, such as values, perceptions, identities through the daily comunication. In the English class we can applied activities as; Try to ask them to play games , role play dialogues, and involve them in competitions.
2.1 Identification of objects beginning with those that are immediate and personal, such as body parts, clothing and objects in the classroom.
2.2 classification according to color , shape, size, number.
2.3 spatial relationship such as far and near.
2.4 temporal relationships such as past, present and future.
2.5 Emotional and familial relationship such as love and hate.
3. preschool teachers can continue developing "Emergent Literacy" with learning centers such as:
3.1 Block centers; in this area the students will learn about order, numbers, shape , size, the children may have already developed in their first language.
3.2. Sand or water table; Children discover for themselves that different - shaped containers may hold the same amount.
3.3 Library: is a center inviting corner where books are kept on shelves within easy reach of children who want to sit quietly to look and read.
3.4 Writing center; Like the library , the writing center, too is portable.
3.5 Table toys; Centers like this encourage the development of hand eye coordination and fine motor skills.

Hello Mr. Monge, I'm Claudia Iveth Alvarez Castillo with registration 0801198104225 this is my contribution to the blog for week 1 in the Early Literacy Class:
ReplyDeleteQUESTION 1: Three facts about language, explain each one of them in your own words, and provide two examples on how each one of them applies to English.
1. Language change: Language is always changing, evolving, and adapting to the needs of people, it means that we don’t t speak in the same way that in the past was spoken, especially because new technologies, new products, and new experiences require new words to refer to them clearly and efficiently. Example: We use the word Whatsapping to refer that we are sending text messages to someone through whatsapp. Other example is that we borrow words from other languages (sushi, Lingerie, croissant, etc...), we create them by shortening longer words (gym from gymnasium, abs from abdominal or stomach muscles, rehab from place for treating addiction, etc…) or by combining words (brunch from breakfast and lunch, emoticon from emote and icon, motel from motor and hotel, etc…)
2. All languages enable speakers to create new utterances: it refers to the ability of humans to create new words according to their region or context. Example: In Honduras we use the word guachiman that is derived from the word watchman, Charamusca or topogigo to refer popsicles, osmil that is derived from the word oatmeal.
3. Language and culture are closely related: is the way people share human values, realities and behaviours of a social group. Example: When different languages or dialects are spoken in the same country, there is one that is commonly used for communication between cultures. Language is formed by culture. This is clearly seen in immigrant societies in, for example, in USA. The immigrants are accustomed to a certain language, and therefore, despite the assimilation, will continue to use it and keep it alive, creating different and cultured societies in that foreign land to keep the language alive.
QUESTION 2 : Mention at least five ways in which parents and family members can start developing "Emergent Literacy" at home.
1. The way in which parents can help their children is to expose their children to the language. They should listen to English at home, not just at school. Example: telling or reading with them stories and singing English songs, watching with them T.V. programs in the target language, downloading apps in English in their tablets, etc…
2. Asking if he/she knows how to say a certain word in English.
3. Learning based on the game in the family environment is extremely important because, in some cases, it may be one of the only opportunities for children to choose their own activities.
4. Placing children's videos, games and songs in English on the computer, phone or tablet.
5. It is important to get them to play outdoors , in that way they explore their world, they relate to other children, and they live their own experiences.
6. Routinized storybook-reading practices, especially on reading of picture books.
QUESTION 3: Mention at least five ways in which preschool teachers can continue developing "Emergent Literacy" once students arrive to their classroom.
1. Establish routines: when routines are established, kids begin to learn about objects and vocabulary associated with certain activities.
2. Read Aloud: Kids benefit from reading aloud. It is a time for them to enjoy special individual attention, to reinforce language and concept development.
3. Reading, writing and drawing with the kids are great ways to set up a good literacy foundation.
4. Talking, singing, playing sound and word games.
5. Talking activities: Ask children to tell you something they enjoyed doing at school that week, or how they feel in some situations, or talk about their future.
Three fats about language
ReplyDelete1)language is a human universal : it means that every society has their own language with the purpose of communicating or transmitting knowledge each other and also being understood for all the world's population.
E.g.
A)Nowadays exist a Lingua Franca which is a system that helps to communicate between people who do not share the same native language. So, In this case I could say that English is one of the lingua Franca in our society because helps us to be understood in a group of people.
B) Also another example of universal language is about Algebra in Mathematics because expresses all conceptual thought in symbols using rules of course, and this can be understood for those groups of mathematician people.
2) language is both creative and functional: language is very huge and provide the opportunity to people being creative in using the language with the same idea of communicating each other.
E.g
A) people can transform thoughts into language that can be heard or seen such as expressing ideas, singing, narrating stories or poems.
B) people is able to make infinite utterance with the purpose of communicating such as a baby who uses cry or refusing for something to be understood and get the attention of people around him.
3) language and culture are closely related : as I said before language is part of a society because helps to communicate each other. So this create a culture between them because give the opportunity to express their beliefs, traditions, customs and values.
E.g
A) In a classroom, beyond teaching a language, teachers have to keep in mind that's important to relate language with culture with the purpose of learning behavior of the society who speak that language and acquired it better.
B) Also a teacher having a multilingual classroom has to know how to teach a language in this case English, knowing that they have their own way of thinking and own way of transmitting beliefs, values, and ways of learning because of their culture.
Emergent literacy at home
Parents have to know that is very important to search creative activities to evolve children in reading or writing activities such as
1.Buy them short stories and read them aloud with the idea of teachings sounds.
2. Establish some routines in orde to make a habit such as order their toys or arrange things by size or color.
3. Tell them to write a list of food to buy called a shopping list.
4. Watch some videos about the alphabet.
5. Expose children visualize information from juice or milk can.
Emergent literacy at school.
Preschol teachers most be aware of searching activities to evolve children in creating or modify their concept about different aspect and helping them to get and and develop their skill in a language environment such as;
1. Involve students in touching concrete objects describing colors or size.
2. Encourage students in phonological awareness to be able to read and spell a word.
3. Provide the opportunity to express their ideas in art activities.
4. Write their names , and read labels around the classroom.
5. Provide list of vocabulary related with abstract or concrete objects.

1. Mention three facst about language, explain each one of them, and provide two examples on how each one of them applies to english.
ReplyDelete- Language change:when you are an English teacher you should know that every day the language changes and you must be updated.
e.g.1 In some cases some words have a different ways to say it but has the same meaning like a synonyms for example: speak- talk, listen- hear, mother- mom.
So students can appropriate the language, they need to know this kind of things about the language.
e.g. 2 Students can learn and put in practices the language in formal and informal ways. for example they can say " I want to go home" or "I wanna go home.", "Thank you! or "Many thanks!".
-Language can be non-verbal as well as verbal: The communication of a language can be transmitted through body movements.
E.g. 1 We can teach the language through songs that include dances or mimics.
E.g. 2 We can play games where the students can do actions, follow instructions, like "Simon Says"
-language and thought are closely related: the communication is a necessary for all all humans beings, all the days we need to share and communicate with others the language.
E.g. 1 Teacher needs to provide opportunities where to students that can develop the language inside the classroom and put it practices in their daily life.
E.g. 2
Students should have the opportunity to interact with their environment to expand their vocabulary and clarify their concepts, for example: Learning corners.
2. Mention at least five ways in which parents and family members can start developing "Emergent Literacy" at home.
1.Parents should talk to their children more clearly, call things by their names so their children can talk the right way.
2. Parents can read illustrated stories to their children from an early age so that they can relate to their own language.
3. Children can become familiar with their language through songs.
4. Parents can set daily activity schedules where children can follow commands and interact with their own language through activities.
5. Use technology as a means of learning through programs, games, and videos.
3. Mention at least five ways in which preschool teachers can continue developing "Emergent Literacy" once students arrive to their classroom.
1. Using audiovisual material like Flashcards.
2. Through activities that force children to interact with each other.
3. Doing activities where they can exercise their writing as worksheets
4. Doing Play Activites.
5.Through mimics, gestures, and learning songs.

Language is a human universal. You can go deep in the jungle and find humans who have not been exposed to modern society and they have language that they use to communicate with each other.
ReplyDelete1. Language is an inherent human trait, in other words all humans can acquire more languages beside their mother tonges.
2 English is a language which is relatively easy to pick up. English has no noun genders, no complicated morphology.
Language is systematic. Every languages has its own characteristic way of combining sounds and sentences.
1. English as well has its own way of combining sounds and symbols.
2. A different between spanish and English systematically speaking is that in English there´s no tone system like in Spanish.
Languages change. Languages are always changing, evolving, and adapting to the needs of its users. This isn't a bad thing; if English hadn't changed we wouldn't have words to refer to modems, fax machines, or cable TV. Another example: Consider texting: originally it was called text messaging, because it allowed one person to send another text.
How to develop Emergent Literacy?
By Reading aloud stories, using flashcards, Creating a communication-rich environment with meaningful activities in the natural context. Provide concrete language-embedded experiences, and establish predictable routines to encourage children to learn to anticipate events.
Mention at least five ways in which preschool teachers can continue developing "Emergent Literacy" once students arrive to their classroom:
Preschool teachers can develop “Emergent Literacy” by offering children different experiences such as exploring, experimenting, discovering and socializing in their individual ways.
Providing learning centers in a classroom.
Using flashcards, Reading aloud big books.
Using realia to make the learning experience more memorable for the learner. To give a couple of simple examples, if we are going to teach vocabulary of fruit and vegetables it can be much more affective for students if they can touch, smell and see the objects at the same time as hearing the new word.

1. One of the elements that distinguishes human beings from the rest of living beings is the ability to communicate systematically and comprehensibly, that is, using a language. The languages vary depending on each region, for example the languages spoken in different countries. In order to communicate with a person from another country it is necessary to know the language or language of that region, otherwise you cannot understand what is being said. In addition, there are other types of languages, for example that of deaf-mutes that is established on the basis of signs, the language of gestures that are common to all and that serve to make understand ideas, feelings or sensations without resorting to the use of words (for example, when someone is happy and smiles).
ReplyDelete2. There are many ways in which parents can help in this situation for example; browse through a book. From infants, children can have contact with books. It is important that babies begin to relate the sounds to the image. Example: ask them to point to the letter in the book, what are you saying. And so with everything, with images of objects, animals, colors, etc.
a) Read and tell stories. Reading experiences foster children's literacy skills. Stories stimulate the imagination of children and help them develop a sense of history. It is important to establish a reading routine with the children. When they go to bed, after eating, etc.
b) Name things. The experiences that children have with written words shape their attitude towards reading and writing. So, it would be nice to put small posters with the written name of each object in the house. Example, sofa, window, table, pictures, etc.
c) Play to relate. There is a variety of books with which children can relate the image with their written name or with sounds.
d) Make a home book. With some folded sheets of paper, you can make a book with the children. Let your child make drawings or paste cutouts from magazines to illustrate it, and encourage him to write words even if they are scribbles.
e) Collect and organize your child's books in a corner or bookcase, so that he has them always at hand and in sight.
f) Visit the library. Take your child to the library at least once a week. Once there, encourage him to approach the books that are geared to his age or his interest. It is important that the child has a positive approach to the books.
d) Play to build letters. You can use material like mud, plasticine or even paste to form names and words. The puzzles of letters, paper or rubber, table or carpet, are ideal to bring letters to children.
3. Mention at least five ways in which preschool teachers can continue developing "Emergent Literacy" once students arrive to their classroom.
a) Doing Play Activites..
b) Count in the living room with educational gaming tables.
c) Do activities such as singing songs.
d) Learn to listen to their ideas and express everything they feel.
e) Describe objects.

ReplyDelete1. Mention three facts about language, explain each one of them, and provide two examples on how each one of them applies to English.
ReplyDelete*Language change: in every part of the world we could see how the languages have been changing through the years. Language is constantly adapting and changing to reflect our changing lives, experiences and cultures. Language change enables us to accommodate new ideas, inventions and technologies. It's not just the words themselves which change; the way in which we use them can shift too. Another important fact is how the different cultures around the world interact and develop different languages for different purposes. Think about the English speaking world today. We are experiencing an exceptional amount of international trade, migration and technological change. Just as the world is quickly changing around us, so is the language we use.
*Language can be non-verbal as well verbal: most of the time human communicate in verbal way in different context and situations but also we have the capacity to communicate in non-verbal way. Non-verbal communication includes body language, such as gestures, facial expressions, eye contact and posture but illustrates personality characteristics as well. It is very important as a teachers that we develop in our students the capacity to express their thoughts and feelings using verbal and non-verbal language to achieve their goals. We can apply this for example when we are teaching emotions to our students or playing mimics to learn more vocabulary.
*Human beings have an inmate capacity to learn language: during the history many people were trying to explain how the human learn a language, they develop different theories. Chomsky suggests that language is an inmate ability, that means that every human being that do not have neurological problems could learn whatever language when they born. Our brain is capable to acquire whatever language. For example, in some schools they apply the program of exchange of students, in which students from a secondary school or university study abroad at one of their institution's partner institutions. A student exchange program may involve international travel. This kind of students learn a new language through immersion. The same happen with the immigrant who travel to a different country to have a better life. While they are working they need to learn the native language to communicate.
2. Mention at least five ways in which parents and family members can start developing "Emergent Literacy" at home.
1. Encourage the child to turn the pages and talk about what he sees. Use your finger to guide your child’s eyes from left to right across the page as you read, and point out certain words or phrases.
2. At mealtimes, talk about the food you are preparing, what you are doing to it, how it tastes and what it looks like.
3. Play games like ‘I spy’ using colors. This can be lots of fun, especially for preschoolers. For example, ‘I spy with my little eye, something that’s green.
4. Choose lift-the-flap books or touch-and-feel books.
5. Give your child opportunities to use letters of the alphabet in different forms on blocks, magnetic letters that stick on the fridge, and puzzle pieces.
3. Mention at least five ways in which preschool teachers can continue developing "Emergent Literacy" once students arrive to their classroom.
1. Play word games that encourage your child to learn sounds.
2. Read stories and then talk about them.
3. Make a storybook with his or her own pictures. Then, motivate the child to say the story in front of their classmates.
4. Watch videos to learn about the sounds of the letters.
5. Sing songs to learn more vocabulary.

1.-There are some facts about language that are very important such as:
ReplyDelete1.1 Language is systematic: Every language has its own characteristics way of combination sounds, words and sentences:
Example #1
One of the most important characteristic of English is its simple inflexion.
Inflexion is a change in the form of a word. (Generally the ending) to express a grammatical function or attribute such as tense, mood, person, number, and gender.
She works in a boutique. He worked yesterday. Flower- flowers
Example # 2
Another characteristic of the English Language is Fixed word order. The place of each word in a sentence decides its relationship with the others.
I (S) sing (V)a song (O)
1.2 No language is wholly regular. Exception to the rule are found in all languages
Example #1:In English language, we form the plurals of nouns by adding –s to the singular example: Book – books, however there are several exceptions to this rule. Nouns ending in –s, -sh, -ch and-x , form their plurals by adding – es to the singular Example ar: Box – boxes, class- classes.
Example #2: Irregular verbs in the English language are verbs that don´t take in the regular –d, -ed, or -ied spelling patterns of the past simple or past participle. Example: cut
1.3 Language change . Language changes because the needs of its speakers change. Language grows to include words, phrases, and constructions that are different from those of the older generation. In the last decade many words have entered to the English Dictionary:
Example #1 You Tuber Example #2 Ringtone
2.- Five ways in which parents and family members can start developing “ Emergent Literacy” at home.
2.1 Read short stories to young children before going to bed preferably out loud. It would be convenient that these books have eye-catching images.
2.2 Set routines because they are important to develop concepts and skills that are the basis of literacy. By structuring activities in in a clear and predictable manner, children can learn: Anticipation, sequence, cause and effect, positional concepts, and understanding of objects and their functions, tactile skills, communication skills etc.
2.3 Children should be exposed to basic positional concepts holding a book, including top/bottom, left/right, front/back. They should also have practice turning pages and examining what is on each page.
2.4 Put some videos from You Tube about learning the alphabet with songs and associating the letters with pictures.
2.5 If parents pronunciation in the English language is unclear, audio apps are a great way for children to get the correct model of grammar and pronunciation in a fun way.
3.- Mention at least five ways in which preschool teachers can continue developing “Emergent Literacy” once students arrive to their classroom
3.1 Accessible name symbols for each individual student are an important way to be able to label their chair, locker, and other personal spaces.. Name symbols may include a combination of a photo, print, and a tactile symbol.
3.2 Daily journals or home books are another way to help the students to discuss events in their day, and to share their experiences with others.
3.3 The use of story boxes or bags with a collection of items that corresponds to the items mentioned in a story. It is an early literacy event that can easily fit into your daily routines as well as a tool to enhance the learning of concepts.
3.4 Most children have had a great deal of experience holding a pencil, drawing, scribbling well before they are taught to write. Through this practice and exploration, they are developing their fine motor skills and coordination, as well as becoming familiar with the mechanics of writing.
3.5.- One of the best ways to promote emergent literacy is to give children activities that support oral language development. Children who learn to express themselves clearly via the spoken word will eventually be able to express themselves clearly and sequentially in writing.

Hello
ReplyDeleteThis is Ana Bety Mejia
And this is my participation about:
Language and Emergent Literacy
It is in the house the place where the child developed certain experiences with the language but it is very limited once in the school the function of the teacher is to help order and increase that first experiences until you discover your potential and become a successful inter actor.
Transferring knowledge of a new language is a process that takes time, experience. It is knowledge of a new context, a culture to be developed introduction another language now with two languages, several factors on language must be considered among them
Language is a human universal
all people have a language system among their members to communicate with each other
E.g. 1-only humans have as a form of expression the language where words are articulated to communicate with others.
E.g.2- Just as there are so many cultures as well as so many languages, but the language is the way to provide how to understand others groups.
Language can be non verbal as well as verbal
the child learns with expressions, mimes, gestures, movements, from the first moment is not born articulating words all this helps you to get to the words
E.g. 1-We can teach through songs with mimics. 2-We can teach with games.
Language and culture are closely related
As it is a human language every adult and every child uses the language to express their thoughts, ideas and power so to opt for better communication
E.g.1-The teacher needs to provide space in the classroom to express everything they want to do.2-Teacher used the interaction to clarify their ideas between them.
Mention at least five ways from parents:
Read to children regularly.
Display books where children can reach them.
Invite children to help you read a story and read favorite stories over in over.
Read aloud.
Involve the children in certain type of activities can be accomplished while cleaning, preparing food, prepare for bed or other family routines.
Mention at least five ways from teachers:
Vocabulary and grammar go hand in hand. Hearing a word in a short sentence is actually more helpful.
Repetition and demonstration.
They work well with spoken instruction and learn quickly by listening to stories and songs.
Tactile learners learn physically by touching and manipulating objects.
1.
ReplyDeletea). Language is a human universal because we communicate in different ways and languages all around the world.
examples:
1. here in Honduras we learn English with native Spanish teachers and learn with them.
2. in USA we have another way but with more practice
b). Language is is systematic because there are a lot of inferences in each language.
examples:
1. Follow the rules to a better understanding.
2. make listening activities and student learn other accent.
c). Language is both creative and functional because we must be creative to teach any language and have to work.
examples:
1. to teach new pupils you better have a great way to show the language and do it with activities.
2. Make worksheets to practice.
2.Five ways
a. listen to music in English at home
b. watch movies in English
c. Try to learn the language to help their kids
d. label all the things at home to kids learn them daily.
e. singing songs kids or other depend of the level.
3.five ways
a. speaking at all time in Engish
b. working in worksheets
c. create power point presentations with creativity and fun activities.
d. making interactive games adding new vocabularies
e. giving the commands in English

ReplyDeleteQUESTION 1-Three facts about Language:
1- Language, a system of conventional spoken, manual, or written symbols by means of which human beings, as members of a social group and participants in its culture, express themselves. The functions of language include communication, the expression of identity, play, imaginative expression, and emotional release.
1-1-Example: You take a language class and your teacher introduces the topic of the day: the past tense of irregular verbs. The day before, you took home a list of irregular verbs, which you now know. In class, the teacher begins by m 'What did you eat today?'You know how to say the word 'banana'. You use this word to respond: 'I ate a banana.
1-2-Some students have difficulty with the t’s in 'What's'. Others do not get the sound of 'a' in 'name'. So, the teacher sounds out the components of the question one by one by really pronouncing them out so that students get to listen to them clearly. Little by little, students become familiar with these new sounds.
2- Language Systematic
Language is a systematic means of communicating by the use of sounds or conventional symbols. The cognitive processes involved in producing and understanding linguistic communication. A system of words used to name things in a particular discipline. The mental faculty or power of vocal communication. Communication by word of mouth, the word.
Language and thought
Language of thought fall into two categories. The first viewpoint is that the language of thought is innate, known as mentalese. The second view supposes that the language of thought is not innate, but is natural “learned” languages. How it is related to our thought process and interpretation of reality. How are language and thought related? Is language shaping our cognitive processes, are we talking about a mutual influence? Is there a universal language system, or is language completely relative?
Language can be non-verbal as well as verbal:
There's no way around it — our success as a species and as individuals depends upon our ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and non-verbally. Communication describes the process of shared cues between people, which goes hand-in-hand with public speaking. This can include eye contact, frequency of glances, blink rate, gestures, facial expressions, postures, and more.
FIVE MAIN FACTS THAT NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION CAN HAVE:
• Repetition – They can reinforce what is already being said
• Contradiction – They can contradict the message and make the speaker seem untruthful
• Substitution – They can take the place of words
• Complementing – They can compliment a verbal message, for instance, a pat on the back
• Accenting – They can underline a certain point in the message
Strengthen Eye Contact
QUESTION 2 EMERGENT LITERANCY AT HOME.
Exposure to reading and writing: teach the process of reading and writing, do the supermarket list, messages, letter to family etc.
Read aloud: they enjoy special individual attention and their reinforce language and concept development, we have to choose a book according with the child, own experiences, add, texture, color tactile cues.
Routines: Read a good book every night about objects and vocabulary associated with certain activities.
Experiential Activities: they will often need specific instruction for example: when we sing the song of the old MacDonald has a farm ia ia ouuu, read a book about a farm, them, they have will visit a real farm and touch different kinds of animals.
QUESTION- 3 EMERGENT LITERANCY AT SCHOOL.
1-Some teachers include books and writing materials indifferent play areas of the classroom.
3- Will emphasize literacy related concepts as they interact with different group of children’s.
4- Dramatic play: a teacher might include a variety of different dress up clothing, so that children can act out stories.

ReplyDeletea) Human being have an innate capacity to learn language. Everybody can learn a new language once they decided to do it and also everyone have the opportunity to learn a language just because we are all born with the necessity to express ourselves and communicate with others.
Example
1. Native Americans learn English since they are children-
2. People like us learn English as a second language it takes more time but we do it.
b) Language and thought are closely related. We use the language to express ourselves and to share with our family, friends and other what we are thinking about, something or what is our opinion in relation with a specific topic.
Example
1. To participate in class and give the explanation of how you understood a theme.
2. When you have to give you opinion about a product that someone is trying to sell you.
c) Language and culture are closely related. 0lThrough the pears, some customs and traditions are still between us just because the language that allows us to share history, values and all of those things that are connected by the language.
Example
1. The independence of United States of American.
2. The stories about an experience that our parents or grandparents had lived and share them with us.
2)
a) Giving to the children toys with different shapes and saying the names of the shapes (as game or just to clean the area).
b) Giving commands with the different intonation that it is require.
c) Saying the color of the clothes that the children wear.
d) Reading fairytales every day or at least once a week.
e) Repeat a the name of an object that the child doesn’t know just to give him new vocabulary.
3)
a) Teaching the alphabet with the help of animal sounds.
b) Provide to the children things that they can manipulate to from letters and numbers.
c) Read books and show them that each group of words have a meaning and functionality.
d) Gesture and mimic every reading.
e) Give the opportunity to write, letters, their names and numbers by painting the with different colors.

Emergente literacy.
ReplyDelete1. Language is a human comunication.all people around the word with every nation, country, race have their own kind of communicate.
2. When children born, they have their own way to comunicate, it could be by sigth because they cannot speak so that is the way how they communicate.
3. Many children around the word born with special abilities such as deafness or blindness, they have their own language, and the way of communicating. So everyone in the world have our own language wheter native or learned.
Emergente literacy at home.
Is the natural occurring reading and writing behavior of children beginning. It says that children in the age from one month until six month the have their ears open to any Language. Before of the six month the ears close and then children are able to learn easly those languages, those languages that they hear in their firts months. The other ones that were not exposed can learned but hardly. Family literacy is know as the type of literacy the child's family is involved in.
1. Through reading
2. Play together.
3. Imitative experiences

Hello Mr.
ReplyDelete1. Mention three facts about language, explain each one of them in your own words, and provide two examples on how each one of them applies to English.
a) The children may not be able to express themselves in English very well: When the children have a first contact with a new language and are learning it, they start in a very accidental way, so it is obvious that they can not express their ideas and thoughts in a very clear or grammatically ordered way, the reason for this is that in their mother language they have had a lot of time to learn it while when they have a first contact with English they only have a few hours a week to learn as much as they can
For example
When they go to school and ask for their opinion in English about a topic they find it hard to find the right words in English that they can use
When children are learning English as a second language they need to know vocabulary in order to express their ideas
b) Young English-speaking children do not another language:
children who have English as their first language do not have another language to express themselves and that is why it is easier for them to learn their mother tongue, apart from having their whole life of practicing English with their parents or relatives. When they go to school, they receive their classes in English, which helps them to perfect their writing, pronunciation and comprehension in this language.
Children who have English as their mother tongue have been practicing it all their lives so they already know a lot about vocabulary and know how to express their ideas in their mother tongue
Children who have English as their mother tongue have been practicing it all their lives so they already know a lot about vocabulary and know how to express their ideas in their mother tongue
c) Children learning a second language may hear English only at school, never at home:
when children are learning a second language, they only practice and listen to them at school, not at home, since at school they have a schedule and follow a structure designed for them to learn a second language and usually at home they do not have anyone who speaks English and if there is someone in their house who speaks it, they usually do not look for a way to teach it in a way that the child has the opportunity to express themselves or that they use the correct grammar and method to learn and make it easier to express their ideas.
For example:
Children who have English as their mother tongue have been practicing it all their lives so they already know a lot about vocabulary and know how to express their ideas in their mother tongue
This type of students come to the park or come to their home the people with they interact do not know what they learned in English that day of classes so they do not look for ways to apply their new vocabulary; or there are more extreme cases in which no member of the family speaks English and that is why he or she only interacts with the language in their school

1.Language can change, and this can be seen nowadays; we have "create" new words that didn't exist in the past; for example: google it, a verb we use a lot. Another example could
ReplyDeletebe Shakespeare's sonnet, they were written using what is known as arcaic english and unless you study the change of words throughout time you wont be able to understand its meaning.
-language and culture are closely related. This has to be with traditions and customs of nations and towns. For example a ESL student will hardly undestand the slang and jargon of a native english speaker from the U.S. Another example could be the word choice a person use when speaking. Instead of saying "you are pretty" someone can say "you look stunning or georgeous". It all depends on the context and culture.
-language can be non-verbal. This means language is also about gestures and body language. And even though there some gestures that are ver y similar among different languages we have to be careful when we make them because it may not mean the same when we do it in a different language context.
2.-association of words with pictures.
-Encourage bedtime stories.
-Do not scold the child when a words is not well used.
-focus on the development of communicative skills on children rather than teaching structure.
-provide children with the tools necessary to identify and associate words.
3. Teachers must be aware of the multiple intelligences and develop new practices to help children become more aware of reading and writing.
-Encourage interactive centers that help children get into context when speaking, writing, or reading.
-Use toys and games that encourage students' motor skills.
-Visit the library or places where writing and reading is the main goal.
-Oral presentations. No matter the age, students have the need to communicate in their own words and develop fluency when having a coversation.
